Itineraries — 7 days
Windhoek, Sossusvlei and Swakopmund, two nights in each place, with driving days kept under six hours.
7 days · Namibia
7 days · about 1,000 km of driving · self-drive or privately guided · Windhoek to Windhoek
The Classic is the trip we design most often for first-time visitors with one week: the essential loop, done properly. Two nights in each place means you actually see Sossusvlei and Swakopmund rather than passing through them, and no driving day runs longer than six hours.
It is a starting point, not a fixed tour. Dates, lodges and pace are designed around you, and every driving time below is the honest version, gravel included.
Day 1
Land, collect your vehicle, and settle in. Evening at leisure in the capital.
Day 2
South into the desert, over the Spreetshoogte Pass with its sweeping views.
Drive: about 300 km, 5.5 to 6 hours. Tar to Rehoboth, then gravel.
Day 3
Enter at sunrise for the dunes, climb Big Daddy or Dune 45, walk Deadvlei's white pan among ancient camelthorn trees.
Note: about 60 km of tar from the Sesriem gate to the parking area; the final 5 km is deep sand, 4x4 or park shuttle only.
Day 4
North through Solitaire, famous for its apple pie and fuel stop, then through the Kuiseb Canyon to the coast.
Drive: about 350 km, 5.5 to 6 hours, mostly gravel.
Day 5
A full day on the coast. Optional excursions: marine cruise at Walvis Bay, Sandwich Harbour 4x4 trip, or the town itself.
Day 6
An easy final drive back to the capital. Farewell dinner in Windhoek.
Drive: about 360 km, 4 to 4.5 hours on tar.
Day 7
Return the vehicle and fly home.
How this trip runs
01
We shape the route around your dates and pace, then book the lodges, camps and excursions through relationships we hold with the properties.
02
Your 4×4 comes from our sister company Advanced Car Hire, and airport transfers from Exclusive Transfer Services, in the same booking file.
03
A human being in Windhoek while you travel. A closed road, a slipped flight, a change of plan: one call sorts it.
04
Most travellers drive themselves on our routes. If you would rather be driven, we arrange a private guide for the whole journey or the days that matter.
Questions
About 1,000 km in total, in three driving days. The longest day is Windhoek to Sesriem at 5.5 to 6 hours. Two days involve no driving at all: the Sossusvlei day and the Swakopmund day.
Yes. Most travellers drive themselves, but we can arrange a private guide for the whole journey, or keep the same route and add guided days where they add most, such as inside the dunes at Sossusvlei.
It works year-round. May to October is dry, cool and best for combining the desert with easy driving; November to April brings dramatic skies and fewer travellers. The dunes are spectacular in every season.
Yes, but not inside seven days without rushing. Adding Etosha properly takes the trip to ten days, which is our Desert & Wildlife itinerary. Two nights in three places beats one night in six.
